Ryuji began working in the restaurant industry after high school; and soon found himself wanting to take his passion for making people smile to a whole new level. That is when he discovered acting. He joined Tomohiro Maekawa’s Ikiume in 2004, and has starred in almost every one of the theatre company’s productions since, including Sun (made into a film directed by Yu Irie in 2016), Before We Vanish (made into a film directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa in 2017), and Function Domino. Don’t let his large frame fool you—Ryuji’s incredible dexterity has allowed him to bring a vast level of depth to every work he stars in, regardless of whether it’s as a violent, foolish man, a straight-laced doctor, or a timid father. Ryuji has also acted in outside theatre performances, such as They Come From the Dark and Djihad, and films such as Bayside Shakedown The Final and I Am Crazy.
