She joined the Haiyuza Theatre Group as a university student, where she began to study the craft of stage acting. From 2008 to 2016, she performed as part of the Ikiume Threatre Group, where she acted in one of the few female roles in some of Ikiume’s most famous plays, such as Sun (made into a film directed by Yu Irie in 2016), and Before We Vanish (made into a film directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa in 2017). She has continued to act on stage in myriad other roles since leaving Ikiume. In 2019, Kayo acted in The Tale of the Nikaido Family, by Iranian director Ida Panahandeh. Kayo’s clarity and pureness of spirit are her biggest strengths. Through them she transcends characters of all genres, and brings the same passion and power to her performances now as she did when she made her first appearance on stage.
