Hana Kino
- Date of Birth:
- January 8, 1948
- Height:
- 160cm
After graduating university, she became a junior high school art teacher, but left after only one year due to her desire to become an actress. She subsequently moved to Tokyo to pursue her dream, and, in 1974, formed an all-girls theatre troupe called Blue Bird with five of her friends from her teacher training school. By the following year, they had begun performing, and they quickly became prominent figures of the small theatre boom in 1980s Japan. Since leaving the troupe in 1986, Hana has expanded her repertoire to include TV, film, and commercials. In 2019, she played the complex role of an unbelievably strict mother who goes out of control due to her immense love for her son, in Lovely Irene (Director: Keisuke Yoshida)—a role which earned her significant praise, and the Best Supporting Actress award at the 43rd Kinema Junpo Awards. She was also nominated as Best Supporting Actress at the 43rd Houchi Movie Awards for her roles in Lovely Irene and No Matter How Much my Mother Hate Me , and was nominated as Best Supporting Actress at the Nikkan Sports Film Awards for her roles in Lovely Irene and Ten Years Japan. From gentle women who are full of kindness, to angry, demon-like characters, Hana has the innate ability to bring an unbridled amount of reality and persuasion to every role she embraces.
